Our Vineyards: Goshen, Vermont

Our Goshen vineyard was planted in 2012 on the site of a long dormant hill farm that ceased dairy operation in the early 1960’s. The well-drained sandy loam is a good match for grape vines, but at 1,500’ of elevation we are vulnerable to late spring and early fall freezes that can present obstacles to growing good fruit. By pruning for lower yields and thinning the canopy to expose the bunches to the summer sun, we are able to achieve ripeness at a challenging site. In Goshen we have planted red varieties Marquette and Sabrevois, and white varieties La Crescent, St. Pepin, Brianna, Osceola Muscat, and Prairie Star.
